Final

The Disney Search

I present to you: The Disney Search. For my final project, I decided to make a game based on the LEGO Disney World castle I built during quarantine. I plan to use iMovie to create a short trailer, Photoshop to create a game poster, and WordPress to make a new site for the game to live on. The story behind the game is that somewhere hidden in the castle is a box with a glass slipper and a famous, one-of-a-kind storybook, but only Tinkerbell’s magic wand can open it. The user picks a character, searches the castle for Tinkerbell, her wand, and then the possible location of the treasure. The head of the castle is very upset, so it’s imperative that you find it soon.

I plan to use my phone to shoot video of the castle at different angles, with the characters in different locations. Then I will import and edit the shots together. I want to use basic, royalty-free music for this. I don’t think the audio portion of this class was my strongest and I’d like to focus my attention on the skills and programs I like better. The trailer will be short and to the point.

The next part is to take photos of the castle. I want to use them for the Photoshop poster and throughout the game. For the poster, I plan to have the castle as a background. I know that I need text on it. I also want the characters and the treasure to appear. I will take inspiration from real video game posters. The ones that I like are typically only a few colors and are more digital art style as opposed to photography. I didn’t see any that are similar to what I’m envisioning in my head.

The last part is to make a new WordPress site. This will house the game. It will have the poster on the homepage and the video on it too. You will be able to choose a character (Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, or Daisy Duck). Once you do that, it will take you to a game played similarly to the one we did in class. The links will take you to “hidden” pages until you win. I want the pages to be hidden, not in the navigation bar, so that the game can play as real as possible. Each page will have some of the story, a picture, and a few links to other pages.

In terms of production plan, I’ve really been struggled to do pretty much anything during this time, so production has been slow. I took the first week to figure out what I wanted to do. During the second week, I intend to finish this write-up first, then start the video. I want to help myself get into a creative and working mood with this because I think it will be the easiest part for me. Next, the poster will get done. I will do a version of it, then start the WordPress site, then go back to Photoshop if I’m not happy with the first version, and back to WordPress. Creating the actual game will be the last part for me. In the real world, I think the game would be made before any promotional material for it, but everything is different right now, so why not this too.
